BC Tactical SA was born from a passion for firearms, particularly AK-platform rifles, and has since evolved into a key player in South Africa’s firearm industry. Founder, Kevin Larney noted his journey began as a university student with a limited budget, looking for an affordable semi-automatic rifle. His fascination with the AK platform led him to acquire a Type 56 rifle, which ignited a deep interest in firearms. This eventually grew into a business, initially focused on helping individuals navigate South Africa’s complex firearm licensing process.
After successfully assisting friends and family with firearm motivations and applications, demand grew rapidly. Recognising the need for professional assistance in this area, BC Tactical was formally established in 2018. Today, it remains a trusted name in firearm compliance, licensing, and customisation, catering to both civilian and professional markets.
At its core, BC Tactical SA provides critical support in firearm licensing and legal compliance, helping South Africans legally acquire firearms. The company streamlines the complex and often frustrating application process, ensuring clients have properly compiled documentation and legal motivations.
BC Tactical SA provides end-to-end support for firearm licensing, guiding clients through each step of the process. This begins with proficiency training, where client’s complete firearm competency courses with accredited institutions to meet legal and practical requirements. Once training is completed, BC Tactical compiles and submits competency applications, including all necessary supporting documents and testimonials. They also prepare comprehensive motivation documents and application forms, increasing the likelihood of approval across various firearm categories such as self-defence, sport shooting, business use, and security applications. After licensing, clients receive expert guidance on selecting the right firearm, accessories, and training providers, ensuring they are fully equipped and prepared for responsible firearm ownership. By handling the administrative burden, BC Tactical allows clients to focus on responsible firearm ownership rather than navigating bureaucratic hurdles.
Recognising a gap in the market for high-quality firearm accessories in South Africa, BC Tactical SA expanded into firearm customisation and accessory development. Limited availability of imported parts made it difficult for firearm owners to upgrade their weapons effectively. To address this, BC Tactical began designing and manufacturing their own products.
Their signature “Judge” muzzle brake and Gen 2 suppressors are engineered for durability and efficiency, accommodating various calibres and firearm platforms. Specialising in AK-platform rifles, Galils, and AR rifles, the company provides advanced firearm upgrades tailored to enhance performance and reliability. Additionally, BC Tactical works closely with security firms, private armed response units, and individual firearm owners, supplying high-end modifications and accessories to meet the demands of professional and civilian users alike. Their focus on durability and quality ensures that customers receive accessories that perform reliably under demanding conditions.
BC Tactical SA remains committed to producing top-tier firearm accessories that meet the highest standards. Unlike many imported suppressors and accessories that fall on the higher end of the cost spectrum, BC Tactical’s products are designed to be cost-effective while maintaining superior quality. Their locally manufactured suppressors provide a viable alternative to high-cost European and American imports, making them accessible to South African shooters.
Further, BC Tactical sees significant potential in modernising the South African National Defence Force’s (SANDF) existing rifle platforms. By introducing modern accessories and suppressor systems, Larney believe they can enhance the effectiveness of SANDF’s R4 and R5 rifle series, much like international advancements seen with the Galil ACE and other modernised platforms.
Additionally, BC Tactical provides fitness coaching to those preparing to undergo the “Vasbyt”, an 84-hour endurance event, run by the Special Task Force (STF) veteran’s association. The event sees challengers undergo a rigorous programme designed to test their mental and physical strength and serves as a re-enactment of the original “Vasbyt”, the first STF selection course that took place in 1976. To this day, the “Vasbyt” is seen As one of the most gruelling selection course in the global police and military communities.
