How to safeguard your future: Expert insights shared at Securex Seminar Theatre

Published on

Securex South Africa, which takes place from 11 to 13 June 2024 at Gallagher Convention Centre, is the ultimate forum for learning about security trends, challenges, solutions, and regulation updates.

Co-located with A-OSH EXPO, Facilities Management Expo, and Firexpo 2024, Securex South Africa offers valuable learning opportunities at the Securex Seminar Theatre, powered by UNISA and presented in partnership with SMART Security Solutions.

“Interestingly, almost 15% of the 7226 visitors to Securex South Africa 2023 stated their reason for visiting was to attend the Securex Seminar Theatre. We find that not only do these visitors walk around the exhibition stands before or after attending the sessions of relevance to them, but people who are visiting the expos to find products or services often attend seminar sessions to learn more about something that has piqued their interest,” says Mark Anderson, Portfolio Director at Specialised Exhibitions, a division of Montgomery Group.

This year’s Securex Seminar Theatre — running from 10:00 daily — encompasses several topical themes, including physical security, digital and physical convergence, responsible security, integration between safety and security, cybersecurity, and, of course, the ubiquitous subject of artificial intelligence (AI).

Some examples of what visitors can look forward to over the three-day seminar programme (subject to change) include:

  • New security standards for access control (John Lakin —STid).
  • PoPIA and PAIA requirements for security companies (Bruce Robertson — Centre for Security Management Studies).
  • Video analytics beyond security (Natalie Doran — Lytehouse).
  • South African security market comprehensive research report (Tasha Smith — Elvey Group).
  • Integrating licence plate recognition (Dave Rampersad — Syntell Group).
  • The SA economy is struggling. What does the post-election future hold? (Dawie Roodt, Lesley-Anne Kleyn)
  • Uncovering the hidden ‘S’ in ESG: The role of responsible security in sustainable business practice (Christopher Galvin — International Code of Conduct Association).
  • Confronting digital and physical convergence (Prof. Elmarie Biermann — Cyber Security Institute).
  • OSH/E and security — a long overdue match (Johan Rheeder — SafetyCloud).
  • Caveat Emptor — Why compliance is important (Tony Botes — Security Association of South Africa).
  • Security Technology and Artificial Intelligence Risks (Johan van Wyk — Fang).
  • Panel discussion on Grow your own security business (hosted by Charles Freedman — ServCraft).
  • Bomb threat management protocols (Jimmy Roodt — Gauntlet Security Solutions).
  • Regulation awareness and why it’s important to stay ahead of the curve (Robert Jansson — STid).

The Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAS) prize-winners will be announced on 11 June at 14:30 in the Securex Seminar Theatre, and the SAIDSA Techman Competition awards will take place in the Seminar Theatre at 15:00 on 12 June.

“We will include the updated and full programme on the Securex South Africa website — www.securex.co.za — and on a QR code within the Securex South Africa Visitor Catalogue. In addition, a board containing the programme can be found outside the Securex Seminar Theatre. We look forward to sharing the latest knowledge downloads with the market and encourage active engagement with the speakers,” says Anderson.

Anderson says: “Besides the Securex Seminar Theatre, and the thousands of high-quality products and services available, several other features help visitors to make the most of their time at the co-located expos. Amongst these are:
