Police in Limpopo have apprehended one of the province’s most wanted suspects, believed to be behind a string of ATM bombings and armed robberies.

The 31-year-old male was arrested on 24 May 2025 at approximately 17:00 in the Giyani Central Business District. His capture followed an intelligence-led operation by the Mopani District Tracking Team in collaboration with members of the Giyani Public Order Police (POPS).

The suspect faces multiple charges related to two major incidents:

Mashashane Policing Precinct (May 2023):

  • Count 1: Robbery with aggravating circumstances

  • Count 2: Malicious damage to property (ATM bombing)

Seshego Policing Area (March 2023):

  • Count 1: Robbery with aggravating circumstances

  • Count 2: Malicious damage to property (ATM bombing)

The arrest came as a result of actionable intelligence and sustained surveillance of the suspect’s movements. The coordinated effort led to his successful apprehension in the heart of Giyani’s CBD.

Following the arrest, the suspect was transported to Giyani SAPS where he was formally processed and remains in custody. The case has since been handed over to the Provincial Organised Crime Unit for further investigation.

Commenting on the development, Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, said:

“This arrest marks a significant milestone in our relentless fight against organised crime, especially the wave of ATM bombings that have instilled fear in our communities and inflicted serious financial losses. It highlights the impact of focused intelligence operations and the commitment of our specialised teams.”

The suspect is expected to appear before the relevant Magistrate’s Court in due course.
